A Good Friend
There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
Many of us have friends—but do we have close friends? I think there is a difference. Great friendships must share deeply. For some this sharing is emotional and for others it is primarily mental. An earthly friendship involves loving and being loved. It means so much knowing that someone is on your side, wanting to help you, cheering you on, and always keeping your best interest in mind. A friend is someone you want to spend time with, and someone who is dear to you. You invest time in and with that person, and share your life with him or her. While a truly great friend is not easy to find, there is a friend who knows you flaws, quirks, bad habits and accepts you as you are. This friendship can be found in Jesus.
Maybe you recall the great hymn ‘What a friend we have in Jesus”. Jesus is our greatest friend. Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. He carries your deep hurt concerns. He is a friend who always has the right words to say even when we don’t want to hear it. And because Jesus is the friend that is closer than a brother to us. He is our Best Friend, Brother, Savior, Redeemer, Healer, Sustainer and Protector. He is everything to us – and He calls us ‘friends’.
