A Godly Appetite
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6
Today as we read from The Beatitudes (Matthew 5), ask yourself the question – what am I hungry for? Depending on the time of day you are reading this your answer will vary however, I want you to consider the last time you were hungry for the Word of God. Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” When we are hungry for God, not only does He satisfy, Gods word tells us that He blesses us as well.
This does not come effortlessly. It is so easy to get busy and slack on reading God’s Word. It is worth the effort, and the benefits (blessings) are many!
Are we hungry? Jesus said, ‘I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in, and eat with him, and he with me.’ (Revelation 3:20).
Are we thirsty? Then we can drink from the Fountain of Life. Jesus said, ‘Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life’ (John 4:14).
If so, then you can be filled.
Prayer for today: Lord, as hunger and thirst is with me every day, I am thankful that it is for You. Increase my appetite for You. Make me hungry and thirsty for Your presence and your will. Don’t let me get distracted by lesser things that cannot satisfy the way that You do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
