A Dangerous Weapon – Part II
Some of Saul’s servants said to him, “A tormenting spirit from God is troubling you. Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you. He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again. 1 Samuel 16:14-15
There is nothing more dangerous to the enemy than someone who uses the voice of praise. Do you know that your praise and thanksgiving will cause the devil to flee? Not only does it bless our Father’s heart, but also confuses the enemy. As I mentioned yesterday each day as you praise with a heart of thanksgiving you will find your hope and faith arising. In 1 Samuel 16:14-23, we read King Saul had an evil spirit troubling him. Saul’s advisors suggested that he get a musician “who can play the harp” so that when this distressing spirit comes, the musician plays and he will be well.
The story goes on to tell of the servant who found, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehem, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.” And it happened that whenever the evil spirit came upon Saul, David would take a harp and play and sing so that the spirit would leave him. As a result, the king would become refreshed and well again.
David’s singing caused the evil spirit to flee. We too can take encouragement from this and use our voices in praise unto God. Do not be silent. Whether you have a good singing voice or not. Turn the music player up, sing and cause that defeating spirit to flee!
As you give thanks and praise unto an all-powerful God.
