A Beautiful Restoration
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3
In 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris suffered a devastating fire which nearly destroyed this iconic building. The flames consumed the roof and spire, and much of its precious artwork was lost. But here’s the interesting part: despite the massive destruction, the main structure of the cathedral still stood. The damage was severe, but the cathedral wasn’t abandoned. Instead, restoration experts began the painstaking process of repairing what was broken. This is a beautiful image of our Good Shepherd.
Just like the cathedral, your life may have been struck by a “fire” , a painful betrayal, a broken relationship, or the collapse of your dreams. The damage may be significant, but God doesn’t leave you abandoned. He doesn’t just walk away and leave you to deal with the ruins. Instead He invites us all to come to Him, where He can restore our soul.
Restoration of the soul is more than a break from life’s demands; it’s an invitation to come into the presence of God where He breathes new life into us. It’s like the refreshment we feel after a good meal, the relief we find after a restful night’s sleep. But this restoration goes even deeper. It touches the mind, the will, and the emotions, every part of you is revitalized by God’s love and truth.
Prayer for today: Good Shepherd, I invite You to restore me today, to renew my heart, my mind, and my spirit. May I find my strength in Your presence, and may Your peace fill every part of my being. Amen.
