A Banquet in the Battle
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Psalm 23:5
In ancient times, a prepared table wasn’t just about food, it represented honor, welcome, and abundant provision. It was a sign that you belonged, that you were cared for, and that you were safe. When David writes in Psalm 23:5, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies,” he isn’t just talking about a meal, he’s proclaiming confidence in God’s provision, even in the face of adversity.
God doesn’t wait for the conflict to end before He blesses you. He doesn’t need the storm to stop before showing up with peace and provision. Instead, He sets the table in the middle of it. Our good Shepherd has a feast laid out in the very presence of your enemies, while they watch but cannot touch what God has prepared for you.
Right here. Right now. God is providing.
It’s a reminder that your peace isn’t found in perfect circumstances, but in the presence of your Shepherd. He prepares the table. You just have to take your seat.
Today, take heart in knowing that God’s goodness isn’t delayed until the battle ends it shows up in the middle of the fight. Are you looking for the table He’s already prepared?
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for meeting me right where I am even when I’m surrounded by struggle or opposition. Help me to recognize the table You’ve prepared for me, and give me the courage to sit at it with confidence, knowing You are with me. Amen.
