Lord, I’m Desperate
April 24-25
Lord, I’m Desperate
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. Psalm 42:1
Lord, I am desperate. These were the words I wrote as I began my week’s journal.
To be desperate you must be done. You look ahead at the road which needs to be crossed and realize the only way you’re going to make it is by leaning on God. You’ve come to a place where help is needed to move forward and that help can be found in God.
David knew this feeling all too well. Some of these early psalms are full of joy. Others end in joy, after David has worked his way through the horrors of what he is enduring- like being hunted and pursued by King Saul. I’m thinking that David doesn’t cover up his highs and his lows. This is real, desperate and, above all, emotional stuff. And, what’s more, we realize that God also is real. God is emotional. God is real and God is there. In Him (God) and this truth is where our comfort lies.
It’s against this background that I have found myself so impacted by the verse above. I even found myself humming the hymn in meditation
‘As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee
You alone are my Strength, my Shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee.’
We live in a desperate society, everyone thirsty for something. Not many desperate for God! Yet He alone has the living water to quench this thirst of desperation. When we recognize it, we can humble ourselves and be blessed from feasting at His table.
Only God can meet our most desperate needs. He understands the depth of our desperation only He can meet this need completely. He is the God of unconditional love. When you are desperate you keep seeking, keep asking, keep knocking, and keep pursuing God.
Prayer for today: Father God, I am desperate for You. My soul thirsts You, God of the living water. Fill me today with Your Presence, I pray. Amen.
