The Safest Place
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. Psalm 91:2
We hear a lot these days about staying safe, washing our hands or wearing masks. We are keeping ourselves free of things that could contaminate us and others. The problem is that nowhere is completely safe, because we live in a contaminated world and, since the fall of man in the beginning of times, we have all been contaminated with sin.
Psalm 91 is a psalm of confidence that reminds us that God protects and preserves those who are His. Life will bring trouble and we will face danger, but as the people of God we can live above fear and trust that He will never let us fall (Romans 8:31-39). Truth is, the only place we can find true safety is in our sovereign God, active daily in the world by providence, is the only source of true safety.
We may suffer in our bodies but by ‘living under the shadow of the Almighty’, we shall experience true protection (Psalm 91:1). As I write, many people all over the world are looking to return to normal. The hope is that very soon we shall all be safe, but it is significant that we are still being told to stay safe – we have a responsibility to do our part. However, there is only one real source of protection. That is Jesus. His protection goes beyond the merely physical into the eternal.
Today no matter where you find yourself just know that if you are in the arms of the Father then you are safe. We shall be welcomed into the perfect presence of Almighty God, and in the meantime, we are offered shelter for our spirits now in the Most High.
Prayer for today: Sovereign God and heavenly Father, thank You so much for being our refuge and place of safety. When our world feels unsafe, help us to keep focus on You in trust and confidence. Amen.
