Trusting and Waiting
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Hebrews 6:19
As we continue to live with all things related to COVID-19, there is one question that remains on everyone’s mind “When do we go back to living as normal?” It made me think of the words of Scripture which encourage us to wait on the Lord. How often we cry out to God to meet our immediate needs, as we perceive them to be urgent. The Bible tells us to live in hope – and faith is the key to waiting. We hoped to get into the event, and eventually our hope was fulfilled. Abraham waited for 25 years. Abraham waited for 25 years. Joseph waited 13 years. Moses waited 25 years. Jesus waited 30 years. If God makes you wait, trust and believe, you are in good company.
There is always a gap between the promise of God and its fulfilment to be much longer than we ever anticipate it to be. Yet God is calling us to be patient through it all. God’s promises to us are the anchor of our souls (6:19). They are solid and secure. He keeps his word, even when it seems impossible, even when the circumstances seem to point to the opposite.
Our hope is not based on some fairy tale dream or vague optimism or even wishful thinking. It is safe and secure in The One who created the heavens and the earth. It is trust in the unbreakable promises of God. It centers on Jesus, who is ‘a high priest forever’.
Delay does not negate the promises of God. Isaiah reminds us that waiting on the Lord renews strength (Isaiah 40:31), whilst Paul encourages us to wait patiently for what we hope for. Whatever our frustrations in daily life, let’s be ever hopeful, always faithful and then thankful when things work out.
Prayer for today: Comforting Father, Give me the courage, Lord, to wait patiently in faith, when it seems as though my immediate needs are not being met. Help me to learn to trust You at all times. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
