Can You Relate?
Hear my cry O God; attend unto my prayer. Psalm 61:1
Do you remember the old Verizon commercial? The Verizon man used to say “Can you hear me now? There have been times in my life that I have felt overwhelmed. I imagine most of us have. And in these moments we find ourselves asking, God can you hear me?
Whatever the overwhelm may be – whether it is our emotions, realities of life, stress or the pull of the enemy – it is a horrible place to be. It feels like being stuck in quick sand with no way out.
In Psalm 61 this is the reality of where David is at. He’s not ashamed of his weakness or his need, thinking it ungodly and wrong, he simply cries out to the Lord to save Him and lead Him to the safe place that is our Father God. This towering rock of safety where true peace and calm reside, is out of reach of the engulfing waves of overwhelm, and not attainable to visit by our own strength or cleverness.
If you are like me and are feeling overwhelmed today, cry out to God. For even in the overwhelm, once we have acknowledged our need for Him, we still have to put one foot in front of the other and chose to allow Him to lead us to the place of peace.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, thank You for making it possible for me to shelter in the towering rock of safety that is my Father God, even though I don’t deserve it. Amen.
