We are His Forerunners
January 16-17
We are His Forerunners
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20
This word “forerunner” means to scout, guide, or one sent before a king to prepare the way. Spiritually, Christ has gone ahead, showing us the way, and we, followers of Christ, are forerunners for the generation to come.
The concept of a forerunner runs throughout the Bible. We could say that Adam was a forerunner, as well as Noah, Moses, Joshua, David. The kingdom of heaven is one of the central themes in Scripture, a forerunner John the Baptist announced the nearness of the kingdom of heaven. Our Savior Jesus Christ during His earthly also preached “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 4:17). John the Baptist proclaimed the coming of Christ, who called His disciples – Us.
Be encouraged this morning and understand that God has chosen you as a forerunner. It is not the leading role in this thing called life, but a supporting one. As followers of Christ we are expected to show others the way. God could have called someone else but instead He chooses you. Know for certain that it is God who called and chosen you to serve Him and His people. Therefore, we should not waste our opportunity to let His light shine through us. Like it or not there are people in your circle that are watching you. Looking to you for encouragement and some sadly watching you to see when you will fall. Either we must allow His light to shine in our lives so that others may see His good works and glorify His name. It’s much harder and takes a lot more courage to walk the road less traveled. But we have His light in us to guide us. He is our forerunner. We are light because He is light.
