Thankful Wednesday
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. Luke 1: 46, 47
Are you thankful when God chooses to use you? Or do you see His selection as a punishment? In today’s reading, we see how Mary rejoiced when she received the position to carry the Messiah, Savior of the world. Considering her position for a moment, the unmarried teenager asked to carry this child, it would be understandable for her to question the call or feel fearful. Yet Mary’s response was praise. Today are you thanking God or cursing your situation?
Mary’s response to the loving action of God is to give praise and thanks. She is the lowly servant who acknowledged the favor of God, her Savior, though she is the mother of the Savior. This is the God of blessing, the God of reversals who raises the lowly and brings down the powerful from their thrones. The all-powerful magnificent and sovereign God to Him be all glory and praise.
Mary gives us a model of prayer, rooted in the past but open to the future. The prayer invites us to give time to recognize and ponder on the gifts we have received, so that we can thank God for them.
Ask God to fill you with deep thankfulness wherever there hasn’t been a grateful response. Then thank the Lord for His goodness, mercy, grace and the daily gift we often take for granted called ‘life!’
