Monday Morning Manna
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15
Yesterday we heard from Sis. Iyzaro Davidson and what a word it was. Speaking from Psalm 86, her sermon titled God of Another Chance. How awesome of a feeling it was to hear this message that God who is rich is mercy, loves me and wants to give me a second chance. In fact, as our speaker so passionately shared with us, God not only gives us another chance, here is that truth: God is also the God who loves to give a second chance! In fact, God loves to give second, third, fourth, etc. chances. God truly loves us and His heart is to see us thrive and excel and prosper. But often we struggle with the things life throws at us, causing us to fail and fall down. Challenges of this world will bring heartaches but, in these moments we must remember God cares, He understands, and He is compassionate towards us.
In this sermon we were reminded of the many characters of the Bible who received second chances. The children of Israel sin and did evil in the sight of the Lord – “And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord” (Judges 2:11) yet He gave them another chance. Jonah thought he could run away from God’s command to go to the Ninveites, instead we saw how God prepared a big fish to swallow Jonah, to put Jonah back on the right track.
Sis. Davidson shared with us, over and over again it is the theme of mercy. God is the God of another chance. When we deserve something bad, God responds by giving us something good. Many of us, like Peter, have denied Jesus along the way – “and Peter remembered the words Jesus had spoken, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” (Matthew 26:74-75). For a season, we have abandoned our faith and fellowship with Jesus. Like Peter, we need a second chance.
This week understand that God is not interested in your resignation letter neither is He looking for your excuse. God is incredibly patient with us. He is a Father full of grace and mercy. He doesn’t disqualify us when we blow it. He has invested in us. God above all knows our every weakness and He is willing to lend you His strength to begin again. Return to the Lord in obedience, saying ‘here I am Lord, I am sorry for not trusting You’. What we do now with our ‘second chance’ is up to you. Do not waste it instead become a vessel to be used by God.
Take advantage of you today’s ANOTHER CHANCE! When God gives you another chance – don’t delay – obey.
