A Hopeless Case Reversed
There was no hope that Abraham would have children, but Abraham believed God and continued to hope. And that is why he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “You will have many descendants.” Romans 4:18
At the age of 66 Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara is the oldest verified woman to give birth. This makes the biblical story of Abraham seem all the more hopeless. In fact, if we consider it not only was Abraham’s age working against him, the age of his wife Sarah, 90 years old, is long past childbearing. But God had made a promise that he would have a son and that he would become the father of many nations and it was this promise that turned a hopeless case into being hopeful.
Before the promise was fulfilled, when it still seemed impossible, Abraham gave glory to God and as he waited for the miracle. God had a bigger picture than Abraham.
In our lives, the word of God and the reality of our situations don’t always match to us. God wants reality not blind faith. He wants children to face things as they are and, despite the circumstances, trust Him with unwavering faith because they truly believe He’s faithful.
Today as you face the reality of your circumstances what may seem like a hopeless case is actually hopeful, if placed in the hands of the Father. God works for our individual good but He also works for His own glory and the extension of His kingdom through the lives of those who will trust Him. ‘Many are the plans in a human heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails’ (Proverbs 19:21).
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the constant reminder that You are ever present in the life of Your children. May I have the grace today and every day to trust You even when circumstances seem hopeless. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
