The Connection
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
As we grow in our relationship with God, we must learn to recognize the influences that are shaping our lives. Outside voices will always try to tell us what to think, what to value, and where to go. But Paul tells us to set our minds on things above. Our minds matter because what occupies our thoughts will eventually influence our choices, and our choices will influence the direction of our lives.
Sometimes moving toward God’s plan means stepping outside of what is comfortable. Over this past weekend, we heard it over and over again: in order to go beyond all limits, you must become uncomfortable with where you are. Often, in those uncomfortable moments, God begins to stretch us, grow us, and prepare us for something greater.
Maybe God is asking you to let go of something. Maybe He is asking you to start something. Maybe you need to change a habit, change your priorities, forgive someone, step out in faith, or finally say yes to something God has been placing on your heart. Whatever it is, don’t allow the discomfort of change to keep you from the possibility of growth.
So I ask you today: What move do you need to make? What decision could become the catalyst for something new in your life? What is God asking you to change so that you can move closer to His purpose? The first step may be uncomfortable, but don’t let discomfort convince you to stay where you are. Set your mind on the things above. Trust God’s direction. Make the move. And watch what God can do when you are willing to step beyond where you’ve been.
Prayer for today: Dear God, when I become uncomfortable, remind me that discomfort does not always mean I am going in the wrong direction. Sometimes it means You are stretching me and preparing me for something greater. Help me to let go of anything that is holding me back and give me the courage to move forward in faith. I want my thoughts, my choices, and my life to be aligned with Your purpose. Show me the move I need to make today, and give me the courage to make it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
