Waiting is Not Wasted Time
Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
Just ask any parent, and I am certain most would agree that children don’t want to wait for anything. The last thing a child wants to hear is a parent say, “Just a second.” That simple response can produce frustration, impatience, and sometimes even a full-blown tantrum. But if we’re honest, aren’t adults sometimes guilty of the same thing? We live in a world that has trained us to expect everything immediately. We can order something today and have it delivered tomorrow. We can send a message and expect an instant response. We can stream whatever we want whenever we want. Technology has become incredibly good at satisfying our desire for convenience and speed. The more accustomed we become to getting what we want immediately, the harder it can become to wait. And then God says, “Wait.” What do we do with that? We take it to the Lord in prayer.
Waiting can be one of the most difficult parts of our walk with God. We pray, but the answer doesn’t come. We ask God to open a door, but it remains closed. We believe for healing, restoration, provision, direction, or breakthrough, yet day after day, nothing seems to change.
Maybe you are waiting for something today. Don’t allow the silence to convince you that God has forgotten you. Don’t allow the delay to convince you that God has said no. Sometimes the answer is simply, “Not yet.” So take a deep breath. Slow down. Be still. Trust Him.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, teach me how to wait on You. I confess that I often want everything immediately, and I struggle when I cannot see what You are doing. Help me to be still and trust that You are working, even when I cannot see it. Amen
