Eliminate the Distractions
In that day, Israel, your cities will be rebuilt, and your borders will be extended. Micah 7:11
I have come to understand that nothing in our lives takes God by surprise. He knows the beginning from the end, and He has a plan for each of us. At the same time, the enemy has a plan as well, and every day we are faced with choices about which direction we will follow. God wants to include us in His greater purpose, but we must be willing to take the first step in His direction.
Sometimes the change begins with what we allow to occupy our minds. Paul tells us to set our minds on things above. In other words, we cannot constantly focus on the noise around us and expect to remain focused on the things of God. There will always be distractions. There will always be voices competing for our attention. There will always be people, circumstances, fears, opinions, and temptations trying to pull us in different directions.
Be encouraged today and understand this simple truth: nothing changes if nothing changes. If you want something different in your life, you may have to be willing to do something different. As my pastor always says, “In order to receive something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done before.”
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, help me to set my mind on the things above and not become distracted by everything happening around me. Give me wisdom to recognize the things that are pulling me away from Your purpose and courage to let them go. Amen
