Get in the Boat
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side… Matthew 14:22
Sometimes, in order to get where God is calling us to go, we have to get in the boat. The problem is that we often want God to show us the destination without requiring us to get into the boat. We want the promise, but we don’t want the process. We want the other side, but we don’t want to cross the water. We want the calling, but we don’t want the uncertainty that comes with following God into places we have never been before. But there are times when God simply says, “Get in the boat.” The disciples were not outside of God’s will. They were right where Jesus had told them to be.
There are moments when we stand on the shore, looking at the boat, knowing God has called us to get in but we’re waiting for perfect conditions. We’re waiting for the wind to stop. We’re waiting until we feel confident. We’re waiting until we have all the answers, but faith doesn’t require us to know everything. Faith requires us to trust the One who does. You don’t need to know everything about the journey when you know the One who called you to take it.
Prayer for today: Father, give me the courage to get in the boat when You call me to go. When I cannot see the other side, help me trust Your direction. When the wind begins to blow and the waves begin to rise, remind me that the storm does not mean You have abandoned me, help me to see You sitting right beside me .In Jesus’ name, amen.
