Run to The Father
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me.”
What a beautiful invitation from Jesus. This verse always reminds me of the song “Run to the Father” by Cody Carnes. The words speak of carrying a burden for far too long, trying to handle it alone, and finally realizing that we were never created to carry it by ourselves. There are times in life when we do exactly that. We carry the weight of our circumstances, our fears, our disappointments, our unanswered prayers, and the things we cannot control. We convince ourselves that we have to be strong enough to handle everything on our own, but we were never created to carry it all. God never asked us to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. He invites us to bring our burdens to Him.
Think about Hannah. Time after time, Hannah prayed for a child. She carried the pain of disappointment and longing, but she didn’t take matters into her own hands. She didn’t try to force the answer. Instead, she ran to the Father. She poured out her heart before God and trusted Him with what she could not change. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to do. We need to stop carrying and start surrendering. We need to stop trying to figure everything out and start praying. We need to stop asking, “How am I going to fix this?” and begin asking, “Father, will You carry this for me?” Maybe you’ve been carrying something for far too long. Maybe you’ve been carrying a burden that has become so familiar that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to live without it.
Today, hear the invitation of Jesus:
“Come to Me.” Run to the Father. He is not waiting to condemn you. He is waiting to receive you. Lay it down. Give Him the burden. Give Him the unanswered prayer. Give Him the fear. Give Him the disappointment. Give Him the situation you cannot control. You were never created to carry it alone.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, today, I hear Your invitation to come to You. I have carried some things for too long, trying to handle them on my own. But today, I choose to lay them down. Lord, I surrender every burden, every fear, every disappointment, and every unanswered prayer. I give You the things I cannot change and the things I cannot control. Teach me not to take matters into my own hands when I don’t understand what You are doing. Give me the faith of Hannah to keep praying, to keep trusting, and to keep bringing my heart before You. Father, I don’t want to carry what You are asking me to surrender. Help me trust You with my burdens and believe that You are working even when I cannot see the outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
