He Never Stops
I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. Genesis 12:2
Whenever I realize that my thoughts have been taken hostage by worry, fear, uncertainty, or circumstances beyond my control, I have learned to surrender my mind to worship. Perhaps you are familiar with the song “Way Maker,” which has become widely known and loved in Christian worship. There have been many beautiful versions recorded, and today I am reflecting on the version by Michael W. Smith. The song is simple and repetitive, but sometimes the simplest words are the ones our hearts need to hear the most. Recently, while singing this song, I experienced a powerful awareness of the presence of God. It reminded me of something my soul so often needs to remember:
God is working, even when I cannot see what He is doing.
The lyrics say:
“Even when I don’t see it, You’re working
Even when I can’t feel it, You’re working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working”
Those words are a reminder I need regularly. There will be seasons when I don’t understand what God is doing. There will be moments when I pray and don’t immediately see an answer. There will be circumstances that make me wonder if anything is changing at all. But my inability to see God working does not mean He has stopped working. God is always at work.
He is working in the places I can see and in the places I cannot. He is working in the waiting. He is working in the uncertainty. He is working behind the scenes, preparing things I may not yet be able to recognize. God does not change with my circumstances. Genesis 12:2 reminds us that God’s promises are bigger than what we can see in the moment. God told Abraham that He would make him into a great nation, bless him, and make him a blessing to others. Abraham had to trust God’s promise before he could see the fulfillment of it, and sometimes we have to do the same. We have to trust God in the space between the promise and the manifestation. So today, if your mind has been overwhelmed by what you see, take a moment to worship instead of worry.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, open my eyes so that I can see You at work around me. Help me to recognize Your presence even when my circumstances tell me otherwise. When I cannot see the answer, help me trust the One who holds the answer. When I cannot feel You, remind me that Your presence has never left me. When my thoughts become overwhelmed with fear, worry, and uncertainty, teach me to surrender my mind to You and replace my anxiety with worship. Father, remind me today, even when I don’t see it, You’re working. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
