Father Along
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6
There are seasons in life when we have more questions than answers. We wonder why certain things happen, why prayers seem unanswered, or why the road ahead is so difficult. Farther Along is a hymn that speaks directly to that mystery while reminding us that we can still have faith when we do not understand. The hymn says: “Farther along we’ll know all about it, farther along we’ll understand why; cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine, we’ll understand it all by and by.”
Proverbs reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
Sometimes faith means continuing to walk even when we cannot see the entire path. We may not understand the “why” today, but we can trust the One who does. Farther Along encourages us not to lose heart while we wait. There is hope in knowing that God sees the whole story, even when we can only see one chapter. We may have questions today that will not be answered until much farther along, but we can continue to trust His wisdom, His timing, and His faithfulness.
Today, if you are carrying something you do not understand, let the words of this hymn encourage you. You do not have to have all the answers to have faith. Keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep looking toward the light. Farther along, we’ll understand!
Prayer for today: Loving Father, I put my trust in You. thank You for the hope and assurance that You provide, even when we don’t understand our circumstances. As we sing “Farther Along,” help us to trust in Your wisdom and timing. Give us the strength to persevere through life’s challenges with faith and thanksgiving, knowing that we will one day we’ll understand it, Your greater plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
