Blessed Assurance
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John10:28
“Blessed Assurance” is a hymn of confidence and joy in our salvation. Written by Fanny Crosby, it celebrates the assurance we have in Christ: “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!” The hymn reminds us that our deepest assurance is not found in our circumstances or even in our ability to manage life on our own. Our assurance is found in Christ. We belong to Him. We are held by Him. And because we belong to Him, we are also given one another.
There will be seasons when we are strong while in others we need to be carried. There will be seasons when we are strong enough to carry someone else. Both are gifts of grace. God often cares for us through the hands, prayers, presence, and love of the people He places around us. So when the world tells us, “No one takes care of you except you,” we can answer with a different truth: I am not alone. I belong to Christ, and He has given me a community to walk with me.
That is a blessed assurance!
Singing “Blessed Assurance” is a powerful way to reaffirm our faith and trust in Jesus. It fills our hearts with gratitude and praise for the salvation He has provided and the hope we have in Him.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, You are my blessed assurance. Today, I thank You for being the same yesterday, today and forever more. As we sing this hymn, may our hearts be filled with joy and confidence in Your saving grace. Help us to live each day with the assurance of Your presence and the hope of eternal life.
