Living With Consequences
Then Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them. Joshua 9:15
In Joshua 9:14, we read that Joshua examined the bread but did not consult the Lord. Yet, just one verse over, we find Joshua living with the consequences of his decision. Verse 15 says, “Then Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them.” The covenant was made. The mistake could not be undone. One reality of life is that decisions have consequences. Sometimes those consequences remain long after the decision itself. Perhaps you are living with consequences from a choice you wish you could take back. Maybe you missed God’s direction. Maybe you moved too quickly. Maybe you trusted appearances. But God is too gracious to leave the story there. The merciful God that we serve specializes in taking what is not good and weaving it into His greater purposes.
Joshua’s story reminds us that consequences are real. But consequences are not the end of the story. God’s grace meets us even in places our poor decisions have taken us. He does not abandon us because we failed. He walks with us through the consequences and teaches us to depend on Him more deeply.
Today if you are carrying the regret of a past decision, let it go. If you’ve asked for forgiveness from God, there is no need to hold onto that heavy weight.
Prayer for today: Lord, I bring my regrets to You today. Thank You that Your grace is greater than my failures. Help me learn from my mistakes without being defined by them. Walk with me through every consequence and teach me to trust You more deeply. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
