Fear Creates Strategies, Faith Seeks God
So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord. Joshua 9:14
One of the first things we notice in Johsua 9 is that the Gibeonites understood they could not defeat Israel through conventional warfare. They had heard what God had done at Jericho and Ai, and they knew that Israel was advancing under God’s favor and protection. They understood that if they met Israel on the battlefield, they would lose. So instead of fighting Israel directly, they chose another strategy: deception.
THE ENEMY DOESN’T ALWAYS FIGHT YOU
HE DISTRACTS YOU!
The Gibeonites understood they could not defeat Israel with force. So they used strategy. The enemy looked at Israel and said:
“I can’t beat them in battle. I can’t stop God’s promise. I can’t destroy their purpose, but maybe I can get them to make an agreement God never approved.”
Don’t be worried about attacks while the enemy is working through distractions. The enemy isn’t trying to destroy your destiny. He’s trying to get you connected to things that will drain your destiny.
Connected to people God never assigned.
Connected to habits God never approved.
Connected to versions of yourself God was trying to heal.
This week, I encourage you to not just rebuke the demons, but also pray against their assignments. Some struggles are consequences of covenants we made without consulting God.
Prayer for today: Lord, forgive me for the times I have trusted my own strategies more than Your promises. Help me to seek You in all things so that I am able to test the evidence that lies before me by the truth of God. Amen.
