The Release of Surrender
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 37:7
There is a difference between saying a prayer and truly surrendering in prayer.
Sometimes we speak the words, but still hold tightly to control. Sort of manipulating or bargaining with God. We often replay outcomes, trying to figure everything out, holding onto worry just in case. But real release comes when we loosen our grip and trust God fully.
Surrender in prayer sounds like, “Lord, I give this to You, completely.” The song Abandoned by Benjamin William Hastings captures this beautifully, reminding us what it means to be fully yielded, fully trusting, and completely dependent on God. To be “abandoned” to Him is not a loss, it’s freedom. It’s the place where striving ends and peace begins.
It’s not always easy. Letting go can feel uncomfortable, even vulnerable. But it is in that surrender that we experience true peace. Not because we have all the answers, but because we trust the One who does.
Prayer becomes more than words; it becomes a posture of the heart. A quiet stillness that says, God, I trust You with this. And in that place, there is release. Deep, lasting release.
Prayer for today: Lord, teach me what it means to truly surrender. Help me not just to speak my prayers, but to release everything into Your hands. Give me peace as I trust You with every detail of my life. Amen.
