My Help
My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2
Do you know that God is the One who knows us (and our needs), loves us (in spite of our faults), and cares for us? The Psalmist declares ‘My help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth’ (Psalm 121:2). In verse 2 he continues, ‘The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade’, and in verse 8 he says, ‘The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever’. Consider the lyrics taken from My Help (Commeth from the Lord) by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir:
I will lift up mine eyes to the hills
From whence cometh my help
My help cometh from the Lord
The Lord which made heaven and earth
He said he would not suffer thy foot
Thy foot to be moved
The Lord which keepeth thee
He will not slumber nor sleep
Oh the Lord is thy keeper
The Lord is thy shade
Upon thy right hand
Upon thy right hand
No, the sun shall not smite thee by day
Nor the moon by night
He shall preserve thy soul
Even forever more
My help, my help, my help
All of my help cometh from the Lord
The Bible makes it clear that, whatever the challenges or difficulties we have to face, if we look to God with sincerity and right motives, and we’re walking in obedience to His Word, the first verse of Psalm 46 will become a reality in our lives ‘God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble’.
