The Messenger of the Lord
The LORD says, “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler for Israel, whose family line goes back to ancient times.” Micah 5:2
Four hundred years before Christ’s birth, Malachi spoke of a messenger who would ready the people for the King. That messenger would become John the Baptist crying out in the wilderness, calling people to repentance, and pointing to the Lamb of God.
This tells us something profound, God prepares us before He moves. He sends reminders, stirrings, convictions, relationships, moments of clarity messengers who soften our hearts for what He wants to do next.
Sometimes the “messenger” is a person.
Sometimes it’s a scripture.
Sometimes it’s a circumstance that wakes us up.
Advent teaches us not just to wait but to listen.
Prayer for today: God, open my ears to Your messengers. Help me recognize the ways You prepare my heart for Your work. Make me attentive to Your voice and willing to follow wherever You lead. Amen.
