The Scepter of Judah, Part II
The LORD says, “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler for Israel, whose family line goes back to ancient times.” Micah 5:2
The “scepter” symbolizes royal authority the right to rule, the strength to lead, and the power to bring justice. By placing the scepter in Judah’s line, God reminded His people that history is not random. The future Messiah was not a last-minute solution, but part of a story God had been writing from the beginning.
This promise tells us something vital about God:
He works long before we see the results.
Even when His people were wandering, struggling, and waiting, God was preparing the line through which the King would come.
Advent draws us into that same truth. You may not see the fullness of what God is doing yet. You may feel like you’re still in the “wandering” stage, unsure of how things will unfold. But the story of Judah reminds us God is already at work. The King is already on the way. His plan is unfolding, even in the unseen places.
Prayer for today: Lord, I ask for You to strengthen my hope as I remember that the King You promised has come and will come again in glory. Teach me to rest in Your timing and walk in Your peace today. Amen
