Seeing Life As A Gift
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
In his book, John Ortberg writes:
“Gratitude is the ability to experience life as a gift. It opens us up to wonder, delight, and humility. It makes our hearts generous. It liberates us from the prison of self-preoccupation. Gratitude is not something we give to God so we make sure He knows that we know how much trouble He went to over us. Gratitude is more than that. It’s the gift God gives us that enables us to be blessed by all His other gifts, the way our taste buds enable us to enjoy the gift of food. Without gratitude, our lives degenerate into envy, dissatisfaction, and complaints, taking what we have for granted and always wanting more.”
Even simple things like a sunset, the colors of fall leaves, the laughter of a loved one can awaken a heart of thanksgiving. Gratitude helps us see God’s hand in every detail and fills our lives with praise for His goodness.
Be encouraged today: focus on the beauty around you and give God praise for all He has made. Let your heart overflow with thanksgiving, recognizing that life itself is a precious gift from Him.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and the beauty that surrounds me. Open my eyes to see Your handiwork in creation, in people, and in everyday blessings. Teach me to live with a heart of gratitude, rejoicing in Your goodness, and praising You for all that You have done. May my life reflect a spirit of thanksgiving in all circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
