Your Words
So it is with the tongue: small as it is, it can boast about great things. James 3:5
In 2017, the Los Angeles Times constructed an article proclaiming that former President, Barack Obama is one of the great orators in American history. Former President Obama had his way with words and getting the message across. Recently a news special focusing on the languages in his speech captured my attention and it is true, his speeches shaped the modern world, displaying the power of words. However this is not new, speeches throughout time have had an impact on the world just the same affecting the outcome of war, women suffrage, human rights and many other issues. In fact, James writes that although ‘the tongue is a small part of the body… it makes great boasts’ (James 3:5). This small instrument has enormous power. It can cause great damage but it can also bring extraordinary blessings. Making the tongue a powerful instrument.
Daily I am reminded the words we speak can be either life-giving (constructive) or life-draining (destructive). Words, determined by the user, can cause a great deal of trouble.
Each of us have a responsibility, not only for the words that you speak, but also for whose words and the kinds of words you listen to. How you speak and how you listen will affect the whole atmosphere in your life. Your words are powerful. Determine today to speak positive, encouraging words of life and blessing everywhere you go.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, help me to mimic You in my speech. Never condemning but looking for the good and pointing others to the Father.
