The Perfect Word
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The regulations of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commands of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. Psalm 19:7-9
Creation reveals God’s glory, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. After sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, creation itself was placed under a curse (Romans 8:20–22). That means while the natural world still reflects God’s beauty and power, it can also at times feel distorted or incomplete.
We see the goodness of God in things like the changing seasons or the renewal of spring. But natural disasters, disease, or suffering might lead some to question His character. This is why David’s next declaration is so vital: “The instructions of the Lord are perfect.”
Unlike the sometimes confusing message of a broken creation, God’s Word gives us a flawless, direct, and complete picture of who He is. Scripture revives the soul, brings joy to the heart, and gives wisdom to those who seek it. The law of the Lord fills in what creation alone cannot fully explain. It shows us God’s holiness, His justice, His mercy, and His deep desire for relationship with us.
As beautiful and moving as nature can be, don’t stop there. Let it point you to the perfection of God’s Word. Take time today to read a passage of Scripture slowly, perhaps meditate on your favorite verse and ask God to refresh your soul through it.
Prayer for today: Dear God thank You for the beauty of creation and the perfection of Your Word. When life feels confusing or overwhelming, help me turn to Scripture for clarity, comfort, and truth. Teach me to delight in Your commands, and to let Your Word shape my understanding of who You are. Amen.
