The Seed of God’s Word
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3
The key to living a fruitful life is in discerning what is truth and what is a lie. If we fail to do this, we will struggle with the seeds we allow to be planted—our thoughts—and the harvest they eventually produce—the kind of person we become. When we speak of God’s Kingdom within our hearts, it is essential to understand that it is His Word that does the work. God’s Word provides the foundation for seeds of truth to be planted in our hearts, and from these seeds, a great harvest will be revealed.
Who we are today is the result of seeds that were planted in our minds, perhaps even before we were able to question if they were true. These seeds—whether they come from the world, our upbringing, or our personal experiences—have shaped our thinking and our beliefs. But as we journey through life, we are constantly faced with seeds that can be divided into two categories: truth and lies.
God’s Word is the most reliable seed we can plant. It’s the truth that guides us, shapes our thinking, and ultimately shapes our lives. Just like a tree planted by the rivers of water, when we plant the seed of God’s Word in our hearts and allow it to grow, we will bear fruit in its season. Our leaves will not wither, and everything we do will prosper according to His will.
But the opposite is true as well. When we plant seeds of lies—seeds of fear, doubt, insecurity, or deception—they can choke out the truth and prevent us from bearing good fruit. That’s why it is vital to be intentional about what we allow to take root in our hearts.
As we reflect on this truth, let’s examine the seeds we are planting today. Are we planting seeds of truth from God’s Word, or are we allowing the lies of this world to take root? The harvest that comes from these seeds will determine who we become and the impact we have on the world around us.
