Remaining in His Love: A Devotional
If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:10
Imagine a warm embrace, a feeling of belonging and security. That is the love of God, a love that surrounds us, sustains us, and beckons us closer. But how do we truly experience and remain in this love? Jesus, in John 15:10, gives us a clear and profound answer: obedience.
God’s Word says in John 15:10 “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” This verse isn’t about earning God’s love. His love is freely given, a gift born from His grace. Instead, it’s about abiding in that love, about living in its fullness and experiencing its transformative power. Jesus, the perfect Son, demonstrated this perfectly. He loved the Father so deeply that His life was a continuous act of obedience. He “kept his Father’s commands” not out of obligation, but out of love. This obedience flowed from, and deepened, His relationship with the Father.
So, what does this mean for us? It means that our obedience to God’s commands isn’t a burden, but an act of love. Obedience to God’s commands is a natural response to His love. Jesus modeled perfect obedience to the Father, and we are called to do the same. Reflect today on areas where obedience is a step of love and trust.
Prayer for today: Lord, I want to remain in Your love through obedience. Help me to live according to Your commands and honor You in all I do. Amen.
