The Peace of God Day 16
Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ Matthew 10:34-36
When we hear the word division, it often carries negative connotations—weakness, separation, or even failure. We celebrate unity with phrases like, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Yet in God’s Kingdom, there are times when division is not only necessary but purposeful.
In Matthew 10:34-36, Jesus speaks about the inevitable divisions that will come as a result of following Him. This division is not because His message is flawed, but because His truth demands a decision. To follow Christ often requires separating ourselves from anything—or anyone—that distracts us from our devotion to Him.
Division in the Kingdom doesn’t weaken us; it strengthens us. It calls us to deeper commitment, sharper focus, and a stronger walk with God. Think about what we are doing now during this fast: setting aside pleasures, distractions, and comforts to draw closer to God. It’s a deliberate act of separating ourselves for a holy purpose.
Just as pruning a tree involves cutting away what hinders growth, God may call us to step away from certain relationships or situations that do not align with His purpose for our lives.
📍ACTION
Reflect on areas in your life where God might be calling you to “divide” or separate yourself for His sake.
Evening Thought (7:30 PM Theme):
“Believe and act on your faith.” – James 2:14-24
There will be times in life when walking with God means creating space between yourself and relationships, habits, or environments that pull you away from His will.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to follow You, even when it requires difficult choices. Help me to see that division, when guided by Your Spirit, is a path to greater growth and deeper devotion. Give me the wisdom to discern what I need to separate from and the courage to act on it. Strengthen me as I walk this journey, trusting that Your plan is always for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
