Raising a Hallelujah
After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise Him for the splendor of His holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever.’ As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men… who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20:21-22
The song “Raise a Hallelujah” by Bethel Music is a powerful declaration of faith in the midst of life’s greatest challenges. The lyrics, “I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemies… louder than the unbelief,” remind us that worship is not just something we do when everything is going well. It’s a weapon we can wield in the face of all of lifes circumstances such as fear, doubt, and adversity.
In 2 Chronicles 20, we read about King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah who were facing a massive army ready to destroy them. Instead of retreating in fear or doubting God’s power, they did something radical—they sent worshipers ahead of the army, singing praises to God. As they raised their voices in worship, God fought on their behalf and won the battle for them. This biblical account reflects the heart of “Raise a Hallelujah”—when we worship God in the middle of our struggles, we activate His power in our lives.
Sometimes, life throws battles our way that seem impossible to overcome. Fear rises, doubt creeps in, and we may feel like we’re surrounded by enemies—whether those enemies are circumstances, inner struggles, or even our own thoughts. In those moments, it’s easy to stay silent or let our praise be drowned out by the noise of worry and uncertainty. But “Raise a Hallelujah” calls us to do the opposite: to lift our voices in praise, louder than our fears and unbelief.
Why raise a hallelujah when the storm is raging? Because our praise acknowledges that God is bigger than whatever we are facing. Worship shifts our focus from our problems to the God who is in control. When we declare “I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm,” we are choosing faith over fear, trust over doubt. We are proclaiming that God’s power is greater than the storm.
Prayer for today: Lord, in the midst of my storm, I choose to raise a hallelujah. I know that You are greater than anything I’m facing, and I trust You to fight my battles. Help me to lift my voice in praise, even when it’s difficult, and to keep my eyes fixed on You. Thank You for Your presence and for the power that is released through worship. I believe You are working, even when I can’t see it, and I praise You for the victory that is coming. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
