Strip Off The Weight
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary a weight is defined as a heavy object to hold or press something down or to counterbalance, a burden or pressure. Therefore, when we are told to strip off every weight we are being told to let go of the things that will slow us down.
It’s important to regularly evaluate what is weighing us down. Just as a runner removes excess weight to run more efficiently, we must strip away anything that hinders our spiritual growth. This might mean saying no to certain activities, re-prioritizing our time, or letting go of habits that do not contribute to our faith journey. Or these could be distractions, worries, or unnecessary commitments. Identify these weights and ask God to help you lay them aside.
Today, take a few moments to identify any weights in your life. What activities, habits, or relationships are slowing you down in your spiritual race? Write them down and pray for the strength to set them aside.
Prayer for today: Father, reveal to us the weights that hinder our walk with You. Give us the courage and strength to set them aside so we can run freely. Amen.
