Abiding in Christ
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:11
Do you remember when you got saved? You were filled with joy. Depending on how long it’s been on the walk you’ve had with Christ, that joy is either ever present, or somehow seems elusive. However, I’d like to remind you that the same joy is not only available to you today but is God’s will for your life. Every day His desire is that we would know His joy in our hearts in such a way that it becomes obvious to people around us.
The joy that Jesus speaks of is linked to abiding in Him. When we remain connected to Jesus, like branches to a vine, we draw nourishment and strength from Him, which produces lasting joy.
As you reflect on today’s verse, consider ways you can strengthen your connection to Jesus. Make a determined effort to spend time in God’s presence. Whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or worship, make a commitment to abide in Him more closely. Enter His gates (your devotional time) with thanksgiving, consider His incredible kindness, celebrate how great and powerful God is and you will experience His joy.
God can always cause your heart to smile.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to save a sinner like me. Help me to abide in Your Son, Jesus, and to draw closer to Him each day. Let my life be filled with the joy that comes from being in Your presence. Amen.
