Infectious Joy
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47
The early church’s infectious joy and genuine fellowship were key factors in its growth. Acts 2:46-47 tells us that they praised God with gladness and simplicity of heart, which resulted in favor with all the people. This infectious joy and unity were so compelling that the Lord added to their number daily.
The gladness and joy of the early church overflowed into their daily lives. Their happiness was contagious, drawing others to them and to the message of Christ. Because of this, we now understand joy is a powerful witness to the world. When we live joyfully, despite our circumstances, it demonstrates the transformative power of Jesus in our lives.
Our daily praise should similarly be a natural outflow of our relationship with Him. Whether in times of joy or hardship, praising God keeps our focus on His goodness and faithfulness and in doing so, we are attracting others to Christ.
The joy and simplicity of the early believers earned them favor with all the people. Their lives were a living testimony to the hope and love found in Christ. As we live out our faith with joy and simplicity, we too can attract others to Jesus. Our authentic, joy-filled lives can spark curiosity and draw people to seek the source of our joy.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for the example of the early church and their infectious joy. Help us to live with gladness and simplicity of heart, continually praising You. May our lives be a testament to Your goodness, drawing others to You. Fill us with Your joy, and let it overflow to those around us, that they may see and experience Your love. Amen.
