Prayer Privilege
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
In God alone we find the know-how necessary for the journey ahead because God alone gives life and the resurrection living inside of us gives extraordinary power. In order to access this power, we must make time to commune with God. God’s word tells us that the effectual, fervent prayer is the greatest weapon for the believer. Prayer is not merely a task to check off; it is the most vital practice on our spiritual journey. First It is a great honor, to speak freely to the Almighty. Secondly it is a great benefit, for it brings down blessings both spiritual and temporal to us, giving us access to God’s peace. Thirdly it is a daily refresher as each time we engage in communication or meditation, it draws us nearer to God.
There are so many examples pointing us to the importance of prayer. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them something. They asked Him to teach them how to pray. Elijah prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and we know what happened after that, God shut up the clouds for over three years. This speaks of the power that we all have access to and the instrument by which we can work wonders when we pray.
The worst thing you could make your prayer life into is by seeing it as a sense of duty. If prayer is a duty for you, you have missed out on the most important aspect of prayer and that is the power you receive from on High when you pray. The most important thing you can do on this journey is to pray.
Prayer is not a duty, it’s a delight!
