Fixer Upper
He restores my soul….Psalm 23:3
Fixer Upper is a reality show in HGTV, which follows Chip and Joanna Gaines as they restore homes in need of repair (redecoration and redesign) creating a dream home for each family. During the first few minutes of the show they discuss the potential and the processes that would be involved in restoring an old dwelling into something useful. Sometimes our lives are in need of a fixer upper.
Sometimes our lives are in need of fairly major restoration after the damage of years of selfish living, hardship and wounding and there are parallels to the way a building is restored. For us it’s about our relationship with Jesus, and how we come to be ‘in Christ’.
In order to restore we must:
- Review your foundations. Jeremiah 15:19 God says ‘if you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me’.
- Restore the structure. Often the home is taken apart and stripped of its very shell. Why? Because a solid house needs good walls, floors and roof. A solid foundation to build on.
- Reconnect the services (the water and power). Reconnect to the Father (baptizes) and restore the power (God – source of life). Look at the lesson Jesus taught us in Luke 15. Whatever the past He welcomes us back to Himself, because of the cross. We are reconnected. The story of the Lost Son in Luke 15 reminds of this wonderful truth. God is our source of power and it is imperative that we remain connected to Him.
Prayer for today: Oh Father, thank You for making a way to restore a rightful relationship with us. Help us to examine ourselves to see the areas in need of fixing, and to follow the leading of Your Holy Spirit as we seek wholeness in the broken down places of our lives. Amen.
