The Last Supper
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’ Luke 22:19-20
Today, we remember the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion. During this meal, Jesus instituted the sacrament of communion, instructing His disciples to partake of the bread and wine in remembrance of Him. As we reflect on this solemn occasion, let’s take time to participate in communion, remembering Jesus’ sacrifice and the new covenant of grace that He established through His death and resurrection.
Each time we partake of the bread and cup, we remember Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and the new covenant He established through His blood. Communion serves as a tangible reminder of God’s redeeming love and the forgiveness of sins available to all who believe in Him. Let’s approach the communion table with hearts of gratitude and reverence, honoring Jesus’ sacrifice and renewing our commitment to follow Him.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, we thank you for the gift of communion, where we can remember and proclaim Jesus’ death until He comes again. As we partake of the bread and cup, may we do so with humility and gratitude, recognizing the depth of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Help us to live as grateful recipients of your grace, reflecting your love to the world around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
