Let’s Talk
My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’. Psalm 27:8
As a parent, I often sense when something isn’t quite right with one of my kids. It might manifest as a difficult day at school, an unexpected emotional outburst, or prolonged periods spent alone in their room. In these instances, I make it a point to reach out and ask, “Would you like to talk? Is there something on your mind that’s bothering you?”
In Psalm 27, we witness a similar intimate relationship between David and God. David’s heart is attuned to the voice of the Lord, and he eagerly responds to God’s invitation to come and talk with Him. This simple exchange reveals David’s deep desire for communion with God and serves as a powerful example for us today.
David’s life was marked by moments of both triumph and trial, yet through it all, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of God’s presence. He understood the importance of seeking God’s face, of coming into His presence with an open heart and a willing spirit. David recognized that true strength and security are found in God alone, and he sought after Him with unwavering devotion.
Like David, we are invited into a relationship of intimacy with our Heavenly Father. God longs to talk with us, to speak to our hearts and to listen to our prayers. He beckons us to come and talk with Him, to share our joys, fears, hopes, and dreams. And just as David responded eagerly to God’s invitation, so too can we approach His throne of grace with confidence and boldness.
In our busy and often chaotic lives, it can be easy to neglect the practice of seeking God’s face. We may become distracted by the cares of this world or overwhelmed by our own circumstances. But Psalm 27:8 reminds us of the simplicity and beauty of drawing near to God. It is an invitation to pause, to quiet our hearts, and to listen for His voice speaking to us.
As we meditate on David’s example, may we be inspired to cultivate a heart that is responsive to God’s call. May we make time each day to come into His presence, to seek His face, and to experience the fullness of His love and grace. And may our hearts echo David’s resounding declaration: “Lord, I am coming.”
Prayer for today: Father, thank You for inviting us into a relationship of intimacy with You. Help us to follow the example of David, who eagerly responded to Your call to come and talk with You. Give us hearts that are attuned to Your voice and spirits that are willing to seek Your face. May we find our strength and security in Your presence alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
