Christmas Starts With Christ
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence follow. Colossians 1:18
In 2015, the ‘Christmas Starts with Christ’ initiative was introduced, aiming to refocus the nation’s favorite holiday on the miracle of Christ’s birth. Shockingly, only twelve percent of adults were reported to be familiar with the nativity story, prompting this campaign to revive the true meaning of Christmas.
While this effort is commendable in redirecting the attention of a largely secular celebration, my reflections extend beyond the festive season. It prompts me to consider how Christ is not merely confined to Christmas but is, in fact, central to all aspects of our lives.
Even in the book of Genesis, although Christ is not explicitly named, His presence is implicit. As Colossians asserts, “He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.”
Considering this, we echo the timeless refrain, “O come, let us adore Him.”
Prayer for today: Dear Lord Jesus, as we navigate this season, may You be at the forefront of all our endeavors. Help us not to lose sight of the greatest gift bestowed upon humanity—You. Amen.
