Finding Peace in Trust, Part II
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3
David’s life was marked by many trials and tribulations. He faced danger from enemies, betrayal from friends, and the constant challenges of leadership. Yet, in the midst of his fears and uncertainties, David returned to his solid foundation, he turned to the one true source of security—his unwavering trust in God.
It’s essential to recognize that trust is a choice—a deliberate decision we make in the face of fear. When fear attempts to paralyze us, we have a choice: succumb to it or put our trust in God. David chose the latter, and his example offers us valuable insights on how we can find peace in trust.
Here are some reminders we should hold onto during these times:
Acknowledge Your Fear: David’s honesty is refreshing. He doesn’t deny his fear; he acknowledges it. We, too, should admit our fears instead of suppressing or denying them. It’s okay to feel fear; it’s a natural response to life’s uncertainties.
Turn to God: David’s response to fear was to turn toward God. He recognized that God was his refuge and strength. God continues to remain a firm foundation, the same yesterday today and forever.
Remember God’s Character: Trust is built on knowing the one in whom we trust. Remind yourself of God’s attributes, His faithfulness in your life, and the promises He has given in His Word.
Choose Faith Over Fear: Trust is a conscious decision to place our confidence in God. The situation you are facing is real, but the God whom you are serving stands above it all. We must choose to believe that God is with us, working for our good (Romans 8:28). This act of faith is a powerful antidote to fear.
Seek Peace in God’s Presence: As we trust God, we find peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). Spending time in God’s presence through prayer and meditating on His Word.
Today, as you face the inevitable fears of life, I hope to encourage you with David’s words: “But when I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Let this verse be a guiding light, reminding you that you have a choice—to place your trust in the unchanging, faithful God who offers refuge and peace, even in the midst of life’s storms. Trust in Him, and you will find the strength to overcome your fears and experience His abiding peace.
