The Power of Purpose
Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you. Colossians 4:17
During routine medical check-ups, we often face questions about our physical health, like diet, weight, smoking, and drinking. However, there’s one crucial question that seldom gets asked but holds immense importance: “What’s your sense of purpose in life?” This question, posed by psychiatrist Marc Agronin, reveals the significant impact of purpose on our overall well-being. You see if we discover our purpose then within we are ignited with a fire that doesn’t easily dim.
Having a sense of purpose in life is as influential as exercise when it comes to our well-being and longevity. Furthermore, hope complements purpose by enhancing our body’s stress response, promoting healthier behaviors, and reducing certain cardiovascular risk factors.
As we defined it yesterday, the word ‘hope’ suggests the possibility that what one desires or longs for will happen. Hope gives us a reason to get up and move on each day. But how does one become hopeful?
Researchers have found that purpose is as great a factor in health and longevity as exercise. Hope adds onto it as well. It improves our body’s stress response, fosters healthier behaviors, and reduces certain cardiovascular risk factors.
Prayer for today: Father, we thank You for being the wellspring of our hope and the cornerstone of our faith. Amen.
