Silent God, Pray
O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? Psalm 13:1
You have prayed. You have fasted. Nothing has changed. In fact, the silence on God’s end seems deafening. Your pain is deeper than physical pain. You wait on the Lord as a wounded sheep. Is He there? Is He listening? Does He really care? Is He coming? There is a desperate plea for help in today’s verse as the psalmist asks – ‘How long will you look the other way?’ Remember the old adage, “Desperate times call for desperate measures. I submit to you that; “Desperate times call for desperate prayers.” When God seems silent, you don’t be silent instead pray.
In a book by Pete Greig called; “God on Mute.” Mr. Greig quotes a man named Brennan Manning who says; “To be grateful for an unanswered prayer, to give thanks in a state of interior desolation, to trust in the love of God in the face of marvels, cruel circumstances, obscenities, and common places of life is to whisper a doxology in the darkness.”
In your desperation; days have become months and months have become years. You find yourself in a very dark place. Like a storm, the encroaching clouds grow darker and darker. Thunder and lightning ensue and you want to run for cover but you have nowhere to hide. Talk to the Father and tell Him how you feel.
Psalm 139:7 says, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I go from Your presence?” Verses 11-12 says “If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you, the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I know that You are good. I believe that You know what’s best for me, even when I don’t know what’s best for myself. Amen.
