Finding Rest Through Letting Go
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. ago. Matthew 28:11
One of the reasons we struggle to find rest is our desire to control every aspect of our lives. We often carry the weight of our worries, believing that our efforts alone will bring us security. However, God invites us to surrender our need for control and place our trust in Him. Here is what Jesus says about this added pressure in Matthew 11:28-30 “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.'”
Whether it’s the expectations of others, the pursuit of success, the trials we face, or the baggage of our past, we often carry loads that leave us spiritually and emotionally exhausted.
Yet, in the midst of our weariness, Jesus extends a gentle and loving invitation, “Come to me.” He understands the weight we carry, and He offers us rest. But this rest isn’t merely a physical break from our toils; it’s a deep, soul-restoring peace that transcends our circumstances.
Reflection: Today I invite you to consider areas of your life where you may be holding onto control. How might you release those burdens and trust God to carry them for you?
