Meditate on Worthy Things
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8
Life is filled with moments that create everlasting memories. Like capturing the joyous occasions at weddings, we long to hold onto the good times. In Philippians 4, Paul teaches us that our faith is not derived from magical experiences but rather from what we choose to hold onto. The background passage of Philippians 4:1-8 reminds us that while we may not always control the thoughts that come to us, we have the power to choose what we hold onto. Using this method you can get rid of negative thinking by not holding onto it.
Many people struggle with negative thinking, and these toxic thoughts can poison our minds and souls. However, when we intentionally change our thought patterns, we open the door to transforming our world. Our thoughts can either lead us to destruction or guide us to victory. On this journey of faith, we must guard our minds from the enemy’s influence.
Thankfully our God did not leave us without weapons to use against the enemy. When negative thoughts try to invade your mind, ask yourself, “Is it true? Is it noble? Is it of good report? Is it right? Is it lovely?” If the answer is NO, then take that thought captive and make it obedient to God’s Word. The apostle Paul exhorts us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Today, I encourage you to recognize the power you have to change your situation by changing your thoughts. Meditate on things worthy of God’s praise and let the presence of Christ fill your mind and heart. Embrace a personal relationship with Jesus, and in the storms of life, you can confidently say, “It is well.”
So, have and hold onto that divine truth, knowing that the more you dwell on God’s goodness and promises, the more your perspective will align with His perfect plan for your life. Trust in Him, and His peace will guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). Let His truth guide your thoughts, and may you experience the joy of walking closely with Him each day.
Prayer for today: Thank you Lord, for Your Word which reminds me today of the power that I still have access to. Help me Lord, to take every thought captive, to hand it over to You as it rears up in my mind, and help me to replace it with thoughts and words of Scripture that tell of Your great might and wonderful power. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
