Clean Windscreen
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.1 Corinthians 13:21
Once, while I was driving my car to work, I realized that I couldn’t see properly through the windscreen of my car. The sun was low and shining in my eyes, but it was also showing how dirty the windscreen was. I then turned my wipers on and activated the windscreen washer motor to clean the windscreen. To my surprise, the situation did not improve as I had expected. I took a moment to examine the issue and it was then I realized that it was not the outside that was dirty but it was smudges that were on the inside.
This simple experience served as a valuable spiritual lesson for me. It made me reflect on how sometimes, in life, we perceive our challenges and obstacles to be external, when in fact, they may be internal factors clouding our judgment and impeding our view. Just like the smudges on my windscreen, these internal aspects can prevent us from seeing things as they truly are through the lens of God and hinder our ability to navigate through the chaos victoriously.
This realization prompted me to take a closer look at myself, my attitudes, and my perspectives, in order to identify and address any internal “smudges” that might be affecting my ability to navigate life’s journey more effectively. It taught me the importance of introspection and the necessity of recognizing and rectifying the internal factors that may be influencing my experiences and perceptions.
Often sin issues, hurt and pain from past experiences and unhealthy relationships leaves people with a foggy picture of who they are, as well who God is. We try to clean up the outside, but the inside is what really requires cleaning.
As I continued on my drive, the clean windscreen now providing a clear view, I couldn’t help but ponder the valuable lesson I had learned through this simple yet profound encounter. It has since served as a reminder to regularly examine and cleanse the “windscreen” of my inner self, allowing me to navigate life’s road with greater clarity and purpose.
David, in Psalm 139:23-24, says ‘Search me oh God, and know my heart, try me and know my anxieties: And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting’. If we’re struggling to see clearly, and to know God’s love and truth, perhaps we need to ask Him to show us if there’s anything in our lives that’s stopping us from seeing Him as He truly is.
When we’re willing and open to bring to God the things that are affecting us on the inside of our lives, He’ll heal and restore us, so we can see more clearly. How clean is the windscreen of your life today?
Prayer for today: Father Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts…….. Amen
