Don’t Settle
Gideon and his three hundred men, exhausted yet keeping up the pursuit, came to the Jordan and crossed. Judges 8:4
In the book of Judges, we encounter Gideon on the banks of the Jordan River following the triumphant battle against the Midianites. Despite the notable victory, two Midianite kings managed to elude capture. Fatigued in body and weary in mind, Gideon and his men realized that the war was far from over. Determined to bring about complete victory, they pressed on in relentless pursuit of the remaining adversaries.
This is certainly one of those “me too” moments Scripture affords. We can fully engage with Gideon and his army because we get it. Life deals us a tough situation. We seek God. (Judges 6) We experience victory. (Judges 7) And we don’t even catch our breath before the next struggle is set before us (Judges 8). Yet still we are encouraged to press on, do not become weary, and keep up in pursuit for in the end we will win!
It’s a shift of perspective to see God is working through the hardship, that helps us not just survive the hardest of times, but find purpose through them. Something that tells us life is worth living and this will all be used for something so good it reaches far beyond us.
In a sense you have a spiritual seed in you and at any moment that seed will begin to grow. Once it grows you begin to believe the words written in the New Testament. “But ye’ are of God little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world”
