God’s Presence Be With You
The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33:14
In the Old Testament, we encounter the account of the Israelites embarking on a momentous journey towards the Promised Land. Following their liberation from slavery, the Israelites resided for nearly a year at the base of Mt. Sinai. It was during this time that God bestowed upon them the Law, sustained them with provisions of food and water, and began the process of healing the deep wounds inflicted by centuries of bondage.
At this pivotal moment, God made a promise to Moses as the Israelites prepared to depart from their encampment and venture into the vast wilderness. Their destination was the land that God had solemnly sworn to bestow upon Abraham and his future generations. This marked the commencement of a remarkable expedition in pursuit of the land of their inheritance.
But, it was now time to move on. Of all of the promises that God has made, the promise of His presence stood strong among them. Through a pillar of cloud and fire, no matter where the Israelites would travel, God will go before them. He reminded them that His peace will go with them. In their travels they had this blessed assurance.
What a difference it makes to know that our Father is journeying with us. We have the presence of the Holy Spirit, a presence which comforts, reassures and guides us daily. Thanks to this gift of the Spirit, we know the same assurance and rest that the Israelites knew.
Do you feel His presence with you no matter where you go, no matter what you face?
Prayer for today: Lord God, thank You for sending me Your comforter to bring me the reassurance and comfort that the Israelites knew. Guide me Holy Spirit. Amen.
